Long-Acting Buprenorphine
Treatment in Florida
Buprenorphine is a medication used to treat opioid use disorder. It reduces cravings and withdrawal and is one of the most established treatments for OUD.
Traditional formulations such as films or tablets are usually taken every day. Extended-release formulations release buprenorphine over a longer period, which removes the daily dosing routine and the need to keep medication at home.
BRIXADI and SUBLOCADE are both extended-release buprenorphine formulations. Both are administered by a healthcare professional rather than self-injected. Whether either one is a good fit depends on your history, your current medication, and your clinical picture — that determination is made by your clinician.
BRIXADI®
Weekly and monthly long-acting buprenorphine options
BRIXADI is given as an injection under the skin on either a weekly or a monthly schedule, which gives your clinician more than one dosing rhythm to work with. It is administered by a healthcare professional at a clinic.
SUBLOCADE®
Monthly extended-release buprenorphine
SUBLOCADE is given as a monthly injection administered by a healthcare professional. One appointment a month covers your buprenorphine dosing for that month.

Does Insurance Cover BRIXADI
or SUBLOCADE in Florida?
Coverage varies by health plan and by injection clinic. Commercial and Medicare plans commonly cover extended-release buprenorphine, often with prior authorization. Benefits are always verified before an injection is scheduled.
How coverage generally works in Florida. Not a guarantee of coverage or payment.
| Coverage Type | What to Expect |
|---|---|
|
Commercial insurance
|
Extended-release buprenorphine is commonly covered, frequently with prior authorization. Manufacturer copay-savings programs exist for commercially insured patients; government-program patients are excluded. |
|
Medicare & Medicare Advantage
|
Coverage depends on your specific benefits and how the medication is billed. The receiving clinic verifies your benefits and any authorization requirement before scheduling. |
|
Florida Medicaid
|
Both BRIXADI and SUBLOCADE are listed among Florida Medicaid's covered physician-administered medications. Requirements can vary by Medicaid health plan, so coverage and authorization requirements should be verified for each patient before an injection is scheduled. |
|
Self-pay
|
Injection clinics that publish cash pricing quote it directly. Manufacturer patient-assistance programs may also apply. Ask your DevotedDOc care team what to expect before you commit. |
Medication coverage and clinic participation are two different things
A medication may be covered by your health plan even when a particular injection clinic does not participate with that plan. DevotedDOc and the receiving clinic verify the applicable access pathway before treatment is scheduled.
If you have Florida Medicaid
The independent Tampa-area injection clinic where DevotedDOc patients currently receive their injections does not accept Medicaid. If you have Medicaid, contact us and we'll help you understand your options.
Medication coverage on the state list does not mean statewide injection access. Injection availability depends on which clinics participate with your plan.
Coverage information is educational and is not a guarantee of benefits, authorization or payment. Plan requirements change; your benefits are verified for you before any injection is scheduled.
Why BRIXADI and SUBLOCADE Are Given at a Medical Clinic
These are provider-administered medications. They are not dispensed to patients for self-injection, and they are not picked up at a retail pharmacy counter.
Both products are distributed under special federal requirements: the medication is shipped to a certified healthcare setting, not to the patient, and a healthcare professional gives the injection and monitors the injection site afterward.
That is why the model has two settings. A local medical clinic handles the physical administration. DevotedDOc keeps the clinical treatment relationship — your evaluation, your treatment plan, your medication decisions and your follow-up care.
It also means you do not have to manage the supply side yourself. The receiving clinic generally handles benefits investigation, prior authorization and acquiring the medication before your appointment.

Can I Switch From Suboxone® or Daily Buprenorphine to an Injection?
Many patients already taking daily buprenorphine may be candidates for a long-acting injection. It is one of the most common reasons people come to us.
Talk With an Addiction ClinicianBRIXADI and SUBLOCADE have different initiation requirements, including what daily dose you should be stable on first.
Whether and when you stop your films or tablets depends on which injection you and your clinician choose.
The transition depends on individual clinical factors — your dose, your history, other medications and your response.
Your DevotedDOc clinician builds the plan with you. We don’t give dosing instructions online, and you shouldn’t change your medication on your own.
Looking for a Long-Acting Treatment Option for Alcohol Use Disorder?
DevotedDOc also provides evaluation and ongoing treatment for alcohol use disorder, including extended-release naltrexone (Vivitrol®) when clinically appropriate.
Like long-acting buprenorphine, Vivitrol is administered by a healthcare professional at a local injection site, while DevotedDOc can provide the clinical evaluation, treatment planning, and ongoing follow-up through telemedicine.
