Long-acting buprenorphine treatment with BRIXADI® & SUBLOCADE®
Meet with a DevotedDOc clinician online for opioid use disorder treatment. If BRIXADI® or SUBLOCADE® is clinically appropriate, we coordinate your treatment and local injection access while continuing your addiction care through telemedicine. If a daily buprenorphine option such as Suboxone® is a better fit, we can manage that treatment online as well.
Get BRIXADI or SUBLOCADE locally — keep your addiction care online
DevotedDOc remains your addiction-medicine care team. The part of treatment that must happen in person — the injection itself — takes place at an appropriate local medical clinic.
Two settings. One coordinated treatment plan.
Start Your Online EvaluationWhat is long-acting injectable buprenorphine?
Buprenorphine is an evidence-based medication for opioid use disorder that helps reduce opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms. It is one of the most established treatments in addiction medicine, and daily films or tablets work well for many patients.
Taking medication every day is not the only option. BRIXADI® and SUBLOCADE® are extended-release forms of buprenorphine, administered as an injection under the skin by a healthcare professional rather than self-injected at home.
The right formulation depends on your medical history, your current treatment, your preferences and your clinical needs. Injectable buprenorphine is one option within a broader OUD treatment program — not a better option for every patient.
BRIXADI® vs SUBLOCADE®: two long-acting buprenorphine options
Both medications contain extended-release buprenorphine and are administered by a healthcare professional. They differ in dosing schedules, initiation requirements, available doses and other practical considerations. Your clinician can help determine whether either option fits your treatment plan.
BRIXADI®
WEEKLY OR MONTHLYWeekly or monthly extended-release buprenorphine, given as an injection under the skin.
- Weekly and monthly formulations
- Administered subcutaneously by a healthcare professional
- Multiple dosing schedules give your clinician more than one rhythm to work with
- Requires clinician evaluation to determine appropriate initiation and dose
SUBLOCADE®
MONTHLYMonthly extended-release buprenorphine, given as an injection under the skin.
- Monthly formulation
- Administered subcutaneously by a healthcare professional
- Designed to provide sustained buprenorphine exposure between monthly doses
- Requires clinician evaluation to determine appropriate initiation and dose
DevotedDOc also provides ongoing telemedicine treatment with daily buprenorphine when appropriate.
Already taking Suboxone® or
daily buprenorphine?
Many patients researching BRIXADI® or SUBLOCADE® are already taking daily buprenorphine. A DevotedDOc clinician can review your current treatment, discuss whether a long-acting injection makes sense, and continue your daily buprenorphine treatment online if that remains the better option.
BRIXADI® and SUBLOCADE® have different initiation and dosing requirements. Your clinician will review your current buprenorphine treatment, clinical stability, and the appropriate way to transition if a long-acting formulation is selected. Transitions are clinician-directed, and you should not change your medication on your own.

Long-Acting Treatment With Less Day-to-Day Friction
BRIXADI® and SUBLOCADE® can reduce the daily routine of taking, storing and carrying buprenorphine films or tablets. For appropriate patients, weekly or monthly treatment can make opioid use disorder care more discreet and easier to fit around work, travel, family and everyday life.
With DevotedDOc, you do not have to move your entire addiction treatment to a new clinic. Your evaluation, treatment planning, medication management and follow-up can continue through telemedicine. Only the injection itself needs to happen locally.
The result is a more private, flexible treatment experience while keeping an ongoing relationship with your DevotedDOc care team.

We help with the steps between prescription and injection
You do not need to figure out specialty medication logistics on your own. Depending on your insurance plan and injection site, the process may include benefit verification, prior authorization and medication acquisition before your appointment. Coverage varies by plan, and requirements are checked before treatment whenever applicable.
Prior Authorization Requirements Vary
Prior authorization requirements vary by state and health plan. Some Medicaid programs may allow certain long-acting buprenorphine products to be covered without a traditional prior authorization when applicable program requirements are met. Other plans may require prior authorization, additional clinical documentation, quantity-limit review or other utilization-management requirements. We verify the applicable coverage pathway before treatment whenever possible.
Benefit verification
We check how your health plan handles the medication and the administering location.
Prior authorization — when required
Some plans require prior authorization for long-acting buprenorphine. Others may allow coverage without a traditional PA when applicable program criteria are met.
Medical vs pharmacy benefit
How the medication is covered and billed can vary by health plan and site of care.
Medication acquisition
The administering healthcare setting coordinates access to the medication through the applicable coverage pathway.
Injection coordination
Once the treatment and access pathway are confirmed, administration is coordinated with the local site.
State-Specific Coverage Can Differ
Coverage rules for long-acting buprenorphine can vary substantially by state. For example, California Medi-Cal Rx currently lists extended-release buprenorphine products on its Contract Drugs List with quantity-limit requirements. Depending on the product and applicable program criteria, a traditional prior authorization may not always be required. State-specific pages provide more detailed coverage and access information where available.
If an injectable medication is not covered or is not the right fit, your clinician can also discuss daily buprenorphine treatment.
Coverage information is educational and is not a guarantee of benefits, authorization or payment.
Not sure you want an injection?
You do not have to choose BRIXADI® or SUBLOCADE® to start treatment with DevotedDOc.
Some patients come to us specifically looking for a weekly or monthly injection. Others begin by comparing their options and decide that daily buprenorphine better fits their treatment needs, insurance, schedule or preferences. Your clinician can discuss both approaches and help determine what makes sense for you.
Both pathways start with the same online addiction-medicine visit.
