Why You Should Establish Telemedicine Suboxone Care Now Before New DEA Rules Tighten Access
Table of contents
Opioid dependence doesn’t wait for the right time. If you or a loved one is considering telemedicine suboxone addiction treatment online, now is the time to act. Federal rules are about to tighten, and patients who establish care before new requirements take effect may avoid future hurdles that could delay or block their prescriptions.
At DevotedDOc, we prescribe Suboxone legally, ethically, and based on best practice guidelines. We deliver medication quickly, coordinate directly with pharmacies, and put compliance first so patients can focus on recovery, not red tape.
The Federal Rule: What’s Changing
In January 2025, the DEA and HHS finalized a new telemedicine rule for buprenorphine (Suboxone®). Here’s what it means:
- Telehealth initiation is permanent. You can begin treatment via audio-only or video telemedicine.
- Six-month window. Patients may receive up to six months of prescriptions without ever being seen in person.
- After six months. To continue, patients must either:
- Have an in-person exam with a DEA-registered clinician, or
- Use one of the approved “telemedicine practice” pathways under 21 U.S.C. §802(54) (such as being physically present in a DEA-registered clinic while your telehealth doctor evaluates you remotely).
- Have an in-person exam with a DEA-registered clinician, or
- Documentation is mandatory. Providers must check the PDMP (prescription drug monitoring program), record it in the EHR, and pharmacists must verify government ID at the pharmacy counter.
The rule is delayed until December 31, 2025. Then, COVID-era flexibilities remain in effect, but after that date, compliance will be enforced.
Why Patients Should Act Now

If you establish now under existing rules, your continuity of care is protected. That means:
- You may not face the same in-person hurdles as new patients after December 2025.
- You’ll be stabilized on a treatment plan already recognized under DEA’s “continuity of care” provisions.
- You’ll avoid pharmacy surprises. DevotedDoc partners with local pharmacies to reduce denials and ensure prescriptions are filled.
This is your opportunity to secure treatment before stricter rules create barriers.
Florida & Georgia: Local Compliance Anchors
Florida
- Allows Schedule III–V prescribing via telehealth (buprenorphine is Schedule III).
- Audio-only visits are permitted under state law.
- PDMP review required at every prescription.
- Follows federal telemedicine flexibilities through Dec 31, 2025.
- Prohibits controlled-substance prescribing via telemedicine for “pain management,” but OUD treatment is explicitly distinct and permitted.
- PDMP check required under federal law even though not mandated for buprenorphine by state statute.
At DevotedDOc, we follow both state and federal rules always. That means every prescription is PDMP-verified, fully documented, and dispensed only after ID is checked at the pharmacy.
Why Choose DevotedDOc for Suboxone Treatment

Patients have options, but not all telehealth providers are equal. Some national platforms expanded too quickly, prioritizing software and volume over clinical oversight. That has led to pharmacy refusals, investigations, and disrupted patient care.
DevotedDOc is different:
- Physician-Led: Every plan is created by licensed physicians who specialize in addiction treatment.
- Same-Day Starts: Most patients are seen and prescribed Suboxone the same day.
- Medication Delivery: We coordinate with trusted pharmacies and can arrange home delivery when available.
- Built for Compliance: Every chart includes PDMP checks, ID verification instructions, and federally required documentation.
- Local Focus: We’re not a call-center telehealth company. We operate in Florida, Georgia, and expanding states with strong local pharmacy relationships.
When you choose DevotedDOc, you choose quality and continuitynot shortcuts.
Is it legal to get Suboxone online?
Yes. Under DEA’s final rule, telemedicine Suboxone initiation is permanently legal through audio or video visits. DevotedDOc follows all state and federal requirements.
Do I need an in-person visit?
Not at first. You can receive up to six months of prescriptions without an in-person exam. After that, an in-person or partner-site evaluation will be required. Patients who start now will be grandfathered into continuity protections.
Will pharmacies fill Suboxone prescribed online?
Yes. DevotedDOc partners with multiple pharmacies across Florida and Georgia and provides documentation pharmacists need to fill prescriptions confidently.
Can medications be delivered?
Yes. In many regions, DevotedDOc arranges medication delivery directly to your home.
If you or someone you love is struggling with opioids, don’t wait until new rules make treatment harder to start.
